The Boom in the Green Car Insurance Market

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

The Boom in the Green Car Insurance Market

Recent research has found that Green Car Insurance policies cost almost 100 per cent more than the regular insurance covers. Price comparison websites on the Internet warn drivers who want to go green that clearing of their carbon emissions is going to cost them more.

Thus, although going for “green” insurance options is admirable, car owners and drivers are advised to weigh the pros and cons before finalising their car insurance policies. They should clearly judge whether a Green Car Insurance policy would be a good idea for them.

The insurance industry can soon experience a boom in the sector of Green Car Insurance. Many car insurance providers have introduced exclusive packages that target the “green” section of customers, or the “green market”. This market consists of car owners and drivers who want to have “environment-friendly” insurance policies for their vehicles.

The majority of the “green” insurance providers design carbon-offsetting schemes. Such a scheme can intend to contribute a percentage of the insurance premium to projects dedicated to carbon offsetting. Generally, Green Car Insurance companies offset the overall carbon emissions of a vehicle.

Carbon offsetting schemes may vary from one insurance provider to another. For some, it could mean the planting of trees or promoting recycling, or being involved in other environment friendly projects. Others may decide to get every form of energy they need solely from renewable sources, or reduce their consumption of paper, cones and water cups. Many green car insurance companies contribute a certain percentage of their annual profits to environment friendly causes. Some offer “green” incentives like recycling a car if it has almost become scrap, and using recycled motor parts, wherever possible, for repairs and replacements.

Some car insurance providers offer lower premiums to owners of green cars. This is due to a common notion among insurers that owners and drivers of green cars are more responsible towards environment and hence are lesser risks to the insurer.

Should you go for Green Car Insurance policies?

A Green Car Insurance policy is an ideal opportunity to contribute towards environmental causes. But, it goes without saying, that these policies are costlier.

Instead of going for a Green Car Insurance policy, you can choose the cheapest car insurance option that will do just enough to provide your car with the cover you want for it. Then you can contribute the money you save on your insurance premium to a green cause that pertains to your ideals. This will bring more satisfaction to you as you get to choose where the money goes and how it gets used. But only a disciplined individual with a lot of restraint can use his saving for environmental causes.

Motorists can take care of the environment in various ways. But they often remain oblivious of the pathetic realities of the environment and thus fail to do their bit. Opting for a Green Car Insurance policy is a simple act that will only require them to pay some extra cash towards the upkeep of the planet earth. But as long as Green Car Insurance policies remain just an option, the objective will be only partially served.

eGreen Insurance provide green car insurance policies that have a substantial role in keeping our environment clean and green.

UK Holidaymakers Advised to Check Car Insurance Cover When Abroad

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

UK Holidaymakers Advised to Check Car Insurance Cover When Abroad

Traveller’s who are thinking of hiring rental vehicles whilst they are abroad, are being urged to check exactly what cover their car insurance provides.

The warning comes in the wake of one British holidaymaker who was involved in two minor accidents in Germany, being left to pay huge excess penalties as a result of the damage.

The two incidents left one rental car with a broken headlight after debris from the road smashed the bulb, with a bump to the left wing occurring in the second incident in a different rental car.

The British motorist believes the repair of each problem would have cost no more than £100 had the events happened in the UK, but instead was left to pay £599 for the broken headlight and £638 for the left wing damage, a cumulative £1,237 in extra fees.

When cars are hired in the UK or on the continent, the price includes fully comprehensive cover, but many holidaymakers are unaware of the inflated excess costs that are charged abroad.

Specialist online provider Insurance4carehire.com, say these fees can be as much as £1,000 overseas and that almost four out of 10 travellers are unaware that they could be liable for such costs which vary from country to country.

Three million UK motorists drive their own cars abroad each year with two thirds of them admitting to not being sure if their insurance covers them properly or not, according to comparison website uSwitch.com. They have also revealed that one in 10 holidaymakers go on a driving break under the incorrect knowledge that their travel insurance will cover them if they have a car problem.

Insurance expert at uSwitch.com, Ashton Berkhauer said, “It isn’t only sun cream holidaymakers need to worry about when driving abroad.” He added that very few providers actually offer more than three day’s free cover with the exceptions being Saga and eCar who both offer an all year round policy.

Barclays provide 90 days cover for a cost of around £21.50, with Admiral charging £9 for four days cover and £17 for 30 days.

Breakdown cover is available throughout Europe for 31 days per trip at a cost of about £70, compared to UK cover which can start at as little as £30 a year.

Peter Gerrard of Moneysupermaket.com said, “If you’re in France for a week, you don’t want to spend one day of the trip by the side of the road and the rest of your holiday without a car. Rather like comprehensive insurance, it’s an area where British drivers might think they have more cover than they have. Recovery costs can be very expensive, especially if you have a foreign car and they order parts for you or they have to contract a recovery company to drive miles to pick you up.”

Gerrard went on to warn, “First check if you are covered for taking your car abroad. Only a few policies include Europe as standard, whereas others you have to pay extra. Also check what their response times are abroad. You don’t want to be sitting on the hard shoulder for hours waiting for the breakdown company to come.”

A Good Performance From Car Insurance

A Good Performance From Car Insurance

Everyone has an idea of the type of car they’d ideally like. You’ve probably plotted out exactly which car, or cars, you’d buy if your numbers came up on the Lottery. Maybe you stand and gape in open-mouthed admiration and envy as someone drives past in your dream car.

But what would be the true cost of your dream car? Obviously if you’re a Lottery winner, money would be no object, but if you’ve scrimped, saved and sold your grandma to buy the luxury sports car you’ve coveted, you may not have all that much to spare on hidden costs.

What hidden costs? I hear you cry. Well, aside from the obvious road tax and MOT costs, there’s car insurance – a legal requirement – and repair bills which will be inevitable on some cars. Add to that any ‘performance’ extras such as filter kits, injection systems and even racing style in-car accessories (if that’s your thing), and the costs can easily mount up. There’s a lot to take into account when planning a car purchase.

Before you decide you definitely want that sports car, do some research into the insurance and other details. Try and find out what the most common faults on your chosen model are, and how much they typically cost to fix in your area. Repair costs are one of the things an insurance underwriter will take into account when deciding what to charge you for cover.

It’s almost a given that any high performance vehicle will be in a high motor insurance group. The Subaru Impreza, the Lancer, the Evo and most other popular sports cars are group 20, the highest insurance group possible. If you are under 30 years of age, you’ll be classed in the high-risk group for a performance car, and will pay more for your premiums than someone even 2 years older. Luckily there are companies who offer cheap car insurance for performance cars; it’s just a matter of shopping around.

As well as insurance and repairs, check the emissions to find out the possible cost of your road tax. For cars registered after 1st March 2001, the cost of tax is calculated by the engine emissions, which can easily be found on the manufacturers website, or ask at the local dealership. To give you an idea, the new Subaru Impreza STi has emissions of 243 g/km, which means the road tax on one of these will work out at £300 for the year, or £165 per 6 months. Doesn’t sound like a huge amount, but when you have to pay it all in one go it can be quite a hardship.

And then there’s the thing that a lot of people seem to forget when purchasing a high-performance vehicle – the fuel consumption. Traditionally, the bigger the engine the more thirsty it is. And of course, the more powerful the engine the more fuel needed to run it. Sticking with the Subaru as an example, the urban fuel consumption is a mere 20.5 mpg, compared to a smaller model like the Peugeot 206 with an impressive 65.7 mpg.

The point is, all these things should be taken into account before going ahead with a purchase. There’s no point in spending a large amount for a car you can’t afford to move off your driveway. Lawn ornaments are much cheaper.

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I had an accident a couple of weeks ago. I lost control of my vehicle on a country lane. The amount of damage to the vehicle is considerably more than it’s value so I know that they will write the car off. My policy document states that they will cancel my policy if the insured vehicle is written off. Will I get any of my money back? The company involved is Admiral.

Will Your Car Insurance Travel Well?

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Image taken on by .
If you are planning to drive abroad in the school holidays you need to check exactly what type of car insurance cover you have.
A lady in London was shocked by how much she had to pay out for two minor accidents, even when she had bought insurance for her hire car. The two small scrapes, breaking a headlight and bumping the left wing of her car against a second rental car when parking, would probably have cost her little more than £100 each. Instead, she ended up paying out £1,237 in excess penalties.
When you rent a car in the UK or on abroad, the price includes fully comprehensive insurance but many people are not aware of the inflated excess charges which can be as high as £1,000 on the continent. Online provider, insurance4carehire, confirms this saying almost four out of 10 holidaymakers don’t know that they could be liable for these costs.
One way to get the cover you require without is to pays around £69 for an annual standalone policy, available from companies like insurance4carhire which covers all eventualities (including damage to underbody, tyres and windows, which are usually excluded in excess-waiver policies from car hire companies).
Every year three million British drivers set off to the continent, yet the price comparison website uSwitch says that two thirds aren’t sure if their insurance covers them or not. Apparently, ten per cent of Britons embark upon a driving holiday with the somewhat cloudy and incorrect notion that driving accidents are covered by our travel insurance. Remember to read the small print, whether you are hiring a car or driving your own.
Mistake number one, if you are driving your own car, is to assume that your own fully comprehensive insurance necessarily provides the same level of cover when you are not in the UK. It does not. EU law only states that insurers are obliged to provide the bare minimum – which means third-party cover. This, of course, will not protect against accidental damage, theft or accident claims and only pays out for damage sustained to another person or car.
Ashton Berkhauer, an insurance expert at uSwitch, reckons that very few of the main providers offer free cover more than three days. The exceptions are eCar and Saga, which both provide driving cover abroad for 365 days a year. Barclays it will charge you £21. 50 for up to 90 days’ cover, and with Admiral it will cost you £9 for four days and £17 for up to 30.
Paul Baxter of Tescocompare. com recommends that drivers should also make sure they have adequate breakdown cover. Breakdown cover in the UK can cost as little as £30 a year, and the cheapest Europe-wide policy is £69, this covers an annual trip of up to 31 days in Europe (IC Breakdown relating to a 30-year old man driving a Ford Focus with an annual mileage of 12,000).
However, Peter Gerrard of price comparison site Money-supermarket. com points out that some of the less expensive policies (not including IC Breakdown) are fairly stripped-down and you have to pay when the breakdown occurs, then claim the cost back on your return. Single-trip policies can also be bought for about £42 from the RAC, AA and Europ Assistance.

Car Insurance. Optional Legal Expense Cover Is Well Worth The Extra.

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Peter, our freelance journalists, not friendly to people are so desperate in his beloved car. No, not revenge he was not his fourteen stone ground gym muscle, is not in Road Rage. He has understood his car fully insured, but he is also a different way. He has liability insurance. He was in his car insurance as an option. This additional coverage, make it him to charge for costs and losses are excluded from normal coverage and third party policy. So four months ago, when his car from behind at the traffic lights were fixed, the bar swung into action! Not for nothing you know, after all, who belongs to a lawyer working for free? No, but it was free, Peter – his insurance paid all its costs. During a garage authorized by their insurance company, a very nice job repairing his affection MX5 has delivered its overall policies typically cover claims for personal injury or loss of profits. So extra £ 2 one months Peter Gabel-out cover for the costs, it was money well spent. He already has the right to compensation for a broken wrist he suffered for his lost income and negotiations are well advanced. One-handed journalists are not so much in our office, he took a month for free! Legal help policyholders recover losses and compensation if the accident was not their fault. These losses can sell the cost of hiring a replacement car while including in the garage, and for those who are not fully insured, the cost of repairs to your car. As Peter will also cover the legal costs of claims for personal injury and loss of income. Cover for legal expenses insurance is one of those who rated insurance through until they relied on. The insurer is the claim for driving and send settlement checks at the end of the process. All you need to do is name the record speak the facts on the costs application form with the lawyer from your insurance company, must be prepared to answer some follow-up questions, and sit back. If the case goes to court, they will represent you and fight your corner – although you may have to be there also. Most car insurance over the Internet does not automatically sold to cover legal costs – there is usually an optional extra is included. It is because of price competition is on the web so violently that insurance companies are allowed to keep their contributions as low as possible is preferable. You will notice that the volunteers can cover the costs of legal costs will vary from insurer to insurer. For example, there are more than 17 pounds. 85 19th Per year, Direct Line £ 95, Churchill and Budget £ 21 £ 24 per year. Few insurance companies such as Admiral, is intended to cover some legal costs for free. So make sure you do not forget to cover legal costs if you buy car insurance. Complex claims can take on the year, especially if serious injury is involved, and final settlement could end up costing millions.

The Quest for Cheap Car Insurance

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Image taken on by .
When you buy a car insurance policy, it is customary to assume that the facts the insurer is most interested in relating to the car in question and the owners skills. For example, what type of car, how old she is, if the driver all the driving convictions, how many years no claims bonus that has been achieved, and so on. Despite attempts to get a quote from a car insurance policy and you will see that they are also interested in you and your lifestyle. For example, they will like to know your age, sex, marital status and zip code. This is not random demographic information collected, because they know that their customers want more for marketing purposes. You use this information to your premiums, based on statistics to calculate the probability that a person in your situation, must show the political claims. Logically, the greater the likelihood that you will be entitled to the policy, the higher the premium. For this reason, it is very difficult to identify a single insurer than with the best offer at the moment. The cheapest deal for you will always depend on your individual circumstances and situation, and the car you drive and take your journey. But what factors affect the cost of your contribution? For example, not expensive, married to a policy more or less? If you leave your car in a garage, you’ll pay less? Can women drivers really cheap insurance? According to Diamond insurers to pay because married drivers pay lower premiums because their data show that married drivers are less likely than single drivers are entitled to. On the other hand, even though all statistics show that overall, women are safer drivers and say, despite all the women-only insurers driver out there that offer great deals for women drivers, companies admiral, in fact, currently provides cheaper quotes for men than for women. This is just to show that if you are a woman, you should expect to never be a jack only offer the cheapest insurance. An insurer that policy affects women and men are also measures to improve value for money can – so that the entire market before you decide to join an insurer in order to compare available should ask. Location plays an important role to pay, a driver in London, up to € 100 per year more than the out-of-London car owners. This is because crime and traffic in London is both higher, making it more likely for car owners in London to make a claim. Garages also tend to have lower quotations, again for security reasons. But this is not always the case. Some car insurance companies are like diamonds, are not aware of this and actually give a lower bid on a car parked in a garage instead of on the street. This is a good reason to offer, both for road and garage to check, even if you have an underground parking facility, for it is not always an advantage. Similarly, the more experience you have as a driver, the lower premiums. This is true not only for teenagers, twenty-year-olds are increasingly treated worse than thirty-year-olds, especially if their license is new. This is bad news for the new driver, but no surprise. In the middle of all this background, it is a very bad idea to choose your age, marital status, gender or other personal information on your car insurance quotes available. Basically i got a quote from admiral for about £600 for fully comp insurance on a 900cc fiat, would I then be able to drive someone elses car? As this would work out a heck of a lot cheaper than actually insuring me on the other car [3k cheaper to be exact]
